Measure of Dreams

9 x 13 watercolor paper, mask, collage fodder
Golden acrylic paints, paint pens

How do we measure our dreams in the night,
when by morning they seem to have vanished?

John Steinbeck one of the greatest writer's of our time
believed in nocturnal productivity. He has said,
"I
t is a common experience that a problem difficult at night
is resolved in the morning after the committee of sleep has worked on it.”

The shorter version of this has become the cliché, "Sleep on it!"

Sigmund Freud believed that dreaming was the "safety valve" for unconcious desires.

Researchers used to think that dreams only occurred during the REM (rapid eye movement) state of sleep, but now most experts agree that we can dream at any time during the night. However, the dreams which occur during our REM state are the most memorable and realistic.

I rarely experience this deep state of sleep, so best I can do, is wake long enough to write down my idea, or some worrisome detail and then place it precariously on my nightstand, it is here where this tidbit of information will incubate-- outside of my mind, sort of in vitro.
This will usually help my overactive mind free up for some ordinary sleep.

"Those who dream by day are cognizant of many things which escape those who dream only by night." -Edgar Allan Poe

I love the way you blend your colors, how they melt from one color into another. That is your great strength. Well, that and your imagination, which doesn't hurt you either.

Everybody dreams don't they, even if we don't remember them? I only remember the really symbolic ones that have great meaning.

your palette - on point and also again your rich positive sensibilities - "solving" being a critical word and so constructive and optomistic...a golden age you create and that we are drawn to.

The cup is not half empty the cup "just is"......I am, learning that from you a continent apart.

Take care and all my best - you are a.blog.treasure......

i love how everything just fits so perfectly in your work...well maybe not perfectly because that is a death word to most creative types. im curious about your process. do you look for quotes and then create your collages around them?

i have found great assistance from my subconscious when working on problem solving, and even at times ask for assistance in my sleep on things that are causing me consternation...sort of like asking my god-self to take over so i don't have to...

I wish I had a camera in my brain so it can record my very colorful dreams.. The only way I can get to sleep, believe it or not, is to visualize imaginary collages or paintings down to the last detail... Do you create art in your sleep?

I like the collage and I am intrigued by the way you used the different shapes. I tend to stick to very rigid designs: how do you "free" your design and combine what may at first seem to be disparate elements(the rectangle on the left, the long divided line and ten the free-shape pic)?

When I enlarged the collage, I noticed the little pagination note..Can you give me some details abt that??

Nice to be "home" again here. Need to catch up on y emails though :)

I can fall asleep for just a few minutes and be dreaming.
I often dream the same dreams, especially when something is going to happen.
Before John's accidebnt I dreamed of crossing a bridge. A huge bridge, and I was driving. I never drive in large cities. That is where this bridge was.
I would get half way over and fear would consume me.
I could not see the other side because the bridge was so steep. It was the fear of going over the bridge and nothing being on the other side.
Same dream every night for months...
Interesting post and beautiful collage. xoxo Nita

Slots make up the majority of the games out there at most real money on-line casinos, typically three-quarters or more of the entire games library.
